Michelle Obama, The Inspirer
Thousands of people surrounded Michelle’s stage waving banners that said, ”We love you Michelle!” Michelle Obama has the ability to give you the goose bumps in all of the first twenty seconds of her speech. The way she praises people for certain things they have overcome. Michelle Obama exemplifies this when she states, “I've seen it in teachers in a near-bankrupt school district who vowed to keep teaching without pay.” Michelle Obama appreciates the dedication and hard work put into peoples everyday lives because she has been there. Michelle really highlights the fact that she grew up without money but that she had love and support. She has a particular way to connect to people through certain experiences she’s had or experiences she knows people are going through because everything she talks about is realistic. I appreciate the integrity that Michelle Obama delivers to her crowd.
Barack Obama
While watching Obamas speech, I felt a huge jolt of hope go through my body. All of the things that he promised our country: jobs, healthcare, less taxes, equal pay, women making their own decisions. He had the amazing ability of connecting with his audience in every way possible. This is definitely an important quality for a president to have, because everybody is emotional and can connect to the heart of the matter.
Once you have expressed your appeals to the crowd, you are only halfway there. Obama did not express HOW he was going to accomplish all of these things. I realize that at least Obama addressed all of the issues that we have unlike Mitt Romney, picking and choosing what to discuss. Before watching Obamas speech, I researched Obamas beliefs on women equality and everything that I read, I agreed with. The first bill that Obama signed was called the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This act was signed so that women would be ensured to have the tools they need to fight for equal pay for equal work. During Obamas speech he brings up this issue vaguely. He states, “Washington politicians want to decide who you can marry, or control health care choices that women should be making for themselves.” This was the only thing that he mentioned about women’s choice but at least he addressed it and we know he cares about the issue. Obama is a very inspiring speaker and all I can hope is that we can move FORWARD with him.

Safety or Freedom?
Why do people come to America? America gives a world image that it’s such a great country, where people can have freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition. The Fourth Amendment states, “The Right of Search and Seizure Regulated.” This means that the people have the right to their privacy and that shall not be violated. In some cases, I agree with the statement, “The government should have the right to investigate to the fullest extent any suspicious person and their activities.” I believe that people should have a right to their privacy especially because it is an amendment. I also believe that if people have anything to hide then they should probably be searched and if they don’t, then it’s ok. I would like to know that I am safe and that I also have rights. There needs to be a balance in between them to find a happy medium. It feels like the safer I am, the less rights that I have.
If you live in America, you are given Civil Liberties and trusted to do the right thing. I believe that all people should be granted these Liberties because that is one of the main things our country is known for. All of these statements are incredible contradictory. I can’t agree 100% with any of them because they make a serious statement and then they either make it unmoral or say something that I completely disagree with.

Students’ rights to basic constitutional freedoms must be balanced with the need to maintain order and discipline in schools...
9/17
Schools have the hard job of putting up with all sorts of different personalities that can lead to many ways of needing to break their constitutional rights. Not all kids are angels that don’t break rules or push any buttons. As a matter of fact, most kids aren’t. If schools didn’t have any sense of discipline, kids could do whatever they want. I also find this unfair in a sense because why shouldn’t they be given their constitutional rights at all times?! Why should the school be able to basically take away the first amendment from students? Is this fair? I do believe that students should be able to express the way they feel about certain subjects but only to an extent because this could be taken advantage of.
Without balancing their basic constitutional freedoms with maintaining order in school, things would be havoc. For example, Joseph Frederick, a senior a Alaska Douglas High School, held up a 14 foot long banner that said, “Bong Hits 4 Jesus.” He was suspended for 10 days for violating the school’s policy against promoting illegal substances. There is a time and a place for freedom of speech and depending on the subject of the matter, school probably shouldn’t be the time or the place.

Indiscriminate Use of Force

Puerto Ricans are given the same constitutional rights as Americans because they are born natural US citizens. Therefore, they are entitled to the same constitutional rights as everybody. Within the last couple of years, the police have been abusing this and their freedom of assembly and expression.
The American Civil Liberties Union has documented many situations of the police abusing protesters at locations that are normally the site of public demonstrations in Puerto Rico. This exemplifies a huge discrimination against their freedom of expression. Officers indiscriminately used chemical agents including, tear gas, pepper spray, batons, rubber bullets, rubber stinger rounds, sting ball grenades, bean bag bullets, Tasers, carotid holds, and pressure point techniques on protestors. This also has a lot to do with where they are from, and the color of their skin. They say that race discrimination is over but it really isn’t. the police have used excessive force in violation of protesters First Amendment right to freedom of speech, expression, and assembly.

"Origins of Provocative Video Are Shrouded"
The film “Innocence of Muslims” really seems to express how some Christians might feel about the Islamic culture in a very ridiculing way. This is a very sad example of how close minded people can be. How can somebody honestly believe all of these things, especially coming from Christians? Christians are supposed to be the people that respect other religions. They can believe that only their religion exists but won’t hate somebody for believing in something else. This is so unbelievably disrespectful! They target a religious person, and accuse him of being a womanizer, a child molester, and a marauder. This is an awful thing to be able to do but according to the first amendment, this is protected under the constitution because of freedom of speech and expression.
The article that I read, ‘Origins of Provocative Video Are Shrouded’ gave a lot of background information to this ‘movie.’ Once of the primary producers name is Steve Klein. He is a Vietnam War Veteran and has a son that was severely wounded in the Iraq War. This is one of the reasons towards his hate against Islam. He has been incredibly active in anti Muslim action in courts, schoolyards and a weekly show broadcast on Christian radio in the Middle East. Mr. Klein states, “We have reached the people that we want to reach, and I’m sure that out of the emotion that comes out of this, a small fraction of those people will come to understand just how violent Muhammad was, and also for the people who didn’t know that much about Islam. If you merely say anything that’s derogatory about Islam, then they immediately go to violence, which I’ve experienced.” He strongly believes that the Islamic culture is an extremely violent way of living. He really thought that he was going to persuade people in thinking the way he does through this movie. Later on in his movie he says that, “The original idea for the film, was to lure hard-core Muslims into a screening of the film thinking they were seeing a movie celebrating Islam. And when they came in they would see this movie and see the truth, the facts, the evidence and the proof.” This man strongly believes in one religion, and he believes it to be Christianity.

Stop the Madrasa
When Debbie Almontaser moved here from Yemen as a child she woke up to snow and enthusiastically told her parents, “There is sugar everywhere, this is America, this is where you get everything you want, the place you can have all of your dreams.” Later in life, Debbie’s agenda was to open New York’s first publicly funded Arabic-language school. She wanted this school to be an opportunity for young children that didn’t speak English yet and had the opportunity to learn and also speak in their native language. This school had no affiliation with religion but with 9/11 taking place the sad fact of the matter, is that people of the United States openly blame Muslims. This is a very open ended criticism and to put Debbie Almontaser, who just wanted to open a school for international children, in the same pot is NOT ok. She is being asked whether or not she believes that 9/11 actually happened. Debbie has a son that is a National Guardsman for the U.S. and for somebody to ask her that is very insulting.
Its creation was publicly announced being approved for the 2007-08 school year. Only days later, right-wing bloggers began to create negative narratives about the school. This school was being attacked and being called a ‘Madrassa.’ The word madrasa means simply “school” in Arabic but is associated by some with Islamic religious schools suspected of training militants. During an interview with The Post, Almontaser was asked for the Arabic root word of the word “intifada”. She responded that the word” comes from the root word that means ‘shaking off’. The Post quoted her saying, “I think its pretty much an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society and shaking off oppression.” The “it’s in her statement is referring to the training the girls were getting at this youth program. Almontaser was forced by the Department of Education and the Mayor of the City of New York to resign after a controversy ver a T-shirt created by a group called “Arab Women Active in the Arts and Media.” The T-shirt had the words, “Intifada NYC” on it, which accrding to the New York Post, was “apparently a call for a Gaza-style uprising in the Big Apple.
Debbie Almontaser lost her job because she was falsely accused of being affiliated with secret uprisings in NY.

Freedom of Speech!
I strongly believe that people are entitled to their own opinion and should be able to speak freely about whatever that might be. The right for women to be able to make their own decisions is incredibly important. They are their own person and their own body and nobody should be making choices that they can make on their own. Before abortions were legalized, thousands of women died from infection, bleeding, and were left to die in their own homes because procedures couldn’t be finished. Abortion was legalized in 1973. It took until 1993 for the government to legalize the freedom of access to clinic entrances. This made it so that protesters had to obey certain laws such as staying off of planned parenthoods property while protesting. These protesters intimidate people at a time when they are already going through a lot of pressure and guilt. As much as I don’t agree with what they are saying and protesting they have the right to be there under the first amendment, freedom of speech.
“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led like sheep to the slaughter.”

Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier
As a reporter for our school paper I understand where these teens are coming from. They want to be able to express a certain subject concerning divorce, teen pregnancy, and bad parenting through their school newspaper. Many teens can relate to these topics. Therefore these teens felt as though it would be a relevant subject to write about. The principal felt as though these subjects were inappropriate for a school newspaper because it could give out information about certain people. Even though I feel as though students should be able to express their first amendment rights through their school newspaper I agree with the principal. These articles could have targeted certain people and that could have resulted in harassment or the students could have felt simply targeted. A school newspaper is not only for the school; it is for the public as well. These kinds of subjects are very negative, and I’m not so sure they fit in a school paper.
No Child Should Be Left Behind
In this world it is very important to be educated. For most careers you need at least four or more years of school after high school to be able to move on. Only some people have the ability to pay and get though college. I believe this to not be very fair. Why should only some people have the option to go to college and move on? In 2010, President Obama signed into law student loan reform that made college more affordable to millions of Americans. The Democrats stated that, “Obama is also working to overhaul the “No Child Left Behind” program and provide teachers with more professional support and resources-while also holding them accountable.” President Obama strongly believes that everybody deserves an education and he is making it possible for everybody.
Mitt Romney vs. Barack Obama Debate
As somebody with a pretty strong opinion against Mitt Romney I wasn’t expecting him to do as well as he did. Truth of the matter is, Romney delivered his viewpoints with a lot of UMPH and I think that is very important for a candidate. This could have helped the undecided voters who to choose. Also, it is only the first debate and we have three more to go so it is still early and we have time.
When somebody is running to be president and hasn’t been put in the situation it is easier to say things because you haven’t had to put them into action. Therefore, I believe that it was easy for Romney to attack Obama because he hasn’t been put in the situation. Romney attacked and attacked which made it hard for Obama to respond. Obama was put in a defensive position and that must have been hard. Romney made it clear that he doesn’t like Obamacare but he didn’t seem to lay out a plan. YES, you can say that you would make it better but the real question is HOW?! I would have liked to see more of a concrete plan. Just because you can be persistent on your thoughts doesn’t mean you know how to perform them.

Obamacare
Healthcare should not be limited to certain people. Whether you have money or not a lot of money, healthcare should not only be granted to only the people who can pay. Yes, it would be more of a profit to the hospital and employees if everybody had to pay but this is also about the people. A lot of people in America are afraid to go to the hospital or refuse to go because of the financial damages. It should be the governments responsibility for any American to be able to access healthcare under any circumstance. It is their job to make sure that the people of America are being taken care of and healthcare should be top priority.
Michelle Obama in Durango!
“Tell them about all the young immigrants that no longer have to live in fear of being deported from the only country they have ever called home.”
“Barack Obama knows the American dream because he has lived it! And he is fighting every day so that everyone in this country can have that same opportunity no matter who we are, or where we’re from, or what we look like or who we love.”
“We are steadily moving this country forward and making that change.”
These are the words from our beautiful, inspiring, first lady, Michelle Obama. She speaks with such poise, gracefulness and also has the ability to make you want to stand up and shout, “I love you!” After listening to Michelle, I want to go out, get involved, spread the word, and help spread around the hope. With four more years, we will help move this country forward with change! I loved when she said that there is hope for our kids, but maybe not even, it may take until our grandkids to have change. People need to hold on to their beliefs and values to strive forward with them to make this a better place! Thank you Michelle Obama for everything you do and inspiring us to do everything we can do!
